Holy Orders
When our Lord called his first apostles—the first bishops and priests—he said to them, “Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Mt 4:19). These men “left everything and followed Him” (Mk 4:20). Today, Jesus continues to call men to serve Him as His priests. His call is profound, beautiful, and radically real. It touches to the core and heart of every man who wishes to give his entire life for Christ and His Church. The priesthood is not a career choice, much less a “job.” It is a profoundly fulfilling, challenging, and joyful vocation by which a man consecrates his entire life in sacrificial offering to God, as Christ did on the Cross. Indeed, there can be no true love without sacrifice. Thus, the priest is called to love radically, as Christ did, by giving everything. Such a call is most awesome and glorious; and every young Catholic man should pray that God gives him wisdom and knowledge to know what He asks of him. God has a plan for each of us, which is mysterious and total gift. Is God calling you to be a priest? Please consider this great act of love for the Church!
